Introducing Martin Johannessen: Budding Journalist

I had a very enjoyable lunch today with a young friend by the name of Martin Johannessen. Martin is a Norwegian Lutheran studing journalism at RMIT and preparing to enter into full communion with the bishop of Rome. As part of his training he maintains a blog on the media called “Media Analysis”. Take a look if this sort of thing interests you. You might also want to take a look at this recent article he wrote which was published in Kairos.

Martin’s article in Kairos is the most well-written piece of reporting that I have ever seen in Kairos. (I’ve always thought that Kairos’ success is in the occassional opinion pieces featured, rather than in straight-up reporting.) Great lede, interesting details, and balanced coverage.
David perhaps you could recommend David’s article to the Get Religion blog?
I hope to read more of his work in the future.

  2. Martin says:

Thank you David! I feel honoured.
You might want to have a look at my latest post, where one of these scary retired Bishops have entered the US Presidential election with full force.

  3. Schütz says:

Thannks for your comment about Martin’s work in Kairos, Shannon – I know the subeditor of the Kairos reads this column regularly. Perhaps she can pass on your comments to the Communications Manager and they can give a poor student a part-time job in the new year?

Martin, Bishop Rene Gracida is hardly the only bishop who has come out in direct opposition to the Obama candidacy solely on the basis of his support for abortion. As you quote the NYT in your piece, there are many on both sides who right now are seeing this moment as a battle for the soul of America. Which way will the balance tip?

BTW if you want to see the context of Bishop Gracida’s message, just take a look at this: Randall Terry
