Been away…

Hi folks! Sorry about that “break in transmission” – I spent Reformation Day, All Saints, All Souls and the Monday and Tuesday of the 31st Week in Ordinary Time with my family and the families of three very good Lutheran-Pastor-friends (yes, I still have them!). More blogging tonight, I promise!

Good Lord! How could anyone celebrate the Reformation?

Still, nice to have you back.

  2. Schütz says:

Beer/wine and cheese is the traditional manner, Louise! With a few hearty rounds of “Ein Feste Burg” thrown in.

Seriously, “Reformation Day” is a red letter festival on the calendars of all Lutheran Churches and many Calvinist ones too.

And (to keep the balance) we did a rousing rendition of “For all the Saints” from Powers Lookout on Saturday (after climbing for two hours up an almost 45 degree incline) while overlooking the King River Valley. That was fun.

Yup. At my sister’s ELCA congregation the lady “bishop” made a vist. My sister spoke glowingly of what a good preacher “bishop” Elizabeth is and how the “bishop” said Lutherans must hold on to their historic Lutheran identity (yet the “bishop” is married to an Episcopal priest). I’m afraid my response was less than charitable, to my shame.

The ELCA is encouraging its members to begin reading the Bible anew. Not a bad idea, but with their emphasis on the historical-critical method, I’m a bit worried about “how” they’re going to read it.

  4. Past Elder says:

Hey, “A Mighty Fortress” was the recessional hymn at my graduation from a Catholic university sponsored by a Benedictine Abbey!

With no apparent distinction between Catholic and Lutheran beverages to be found.

    ELCA. Oh, yeah, the E?CA.
