This is Pastor Weedon’s church – looking like a cross between the parish church of my youth and that big house down the street with all the Christmas lights.
But wouldn’t it be nice to have Christmas in winter darkness for once and to be able to do up our Australian churches like this? (For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, it might interest you to know that at Christmas it is still daylight outside at 9pm here in Melbourne…)
We could make a statement against the prevailing culture here in Australia and have Australian Christian Christmas in JUNE ,when it is dark and cold here in Melbourne .It might have minimal impact upon the retailers in december but think of what profits they would have right at the end of the financial year in June!!
Must be why I like going to Midnight Mass.
At least here in Tasmania it’ll be cool enough for a proper ham, turkey and pudding feast, rather than swelter somewhere on the mainland…
26 degrees on Christmas day-Just the way i like it. white christmas-apologies to our American brethren- bah humbug!!
Thanks for the mention, David, but it’s still all Adventy – blue is still up and the Advent wreath still out. But now the white is gleaming on altar, lectern, and pulpit, and the wreath is gone. Our photographer friend might get some new picts. We’ll have to see. I’d love some with it filled with people, but that’s always awkward. In any case, thanks again for the mention, and a most joyous Christmas to you and to the readers of your always thought-provoking blog(s)!
From east to west
From shore to shore
Let every heart
Awake and sing
The Child that
Blessed Mary bore
The Christ, the Everlasting King!
This morning between 7.30 to 7.50(Aust Eastern Summer Time )ABC Classic FM played excerpts from part one of Handel’s Messiah.I reflected that it only took the composer 23 days to write, but over 200 years later it is still a favourite, even on Government funded, secular radio.
Merry Christmas to fellow readerS,near and far and in Tasmania.Pastor WW and any other clergy reading, may God Bless you and your congregations tonight and tommorrow as you preach the never changing Gospel to an ever changing world.
I take it that’s 26 C. Here in the land of white Christmas, it’s 17 F right now. Nice on a Christmas card, but it’ll be in the 70s F in Miami to-morrow, white means the white sand at the beach, and I could be speaking Spanish too instead of this. Maybe that Melkite church is still there for old times’ sake, auld lang syne, at least now I’ll know about the bread after.
Maybe I should have gone there already for Advent. The East generally does Advent in red so maybe they do to — no damned blue!
Which leads me to my Christmas present for SCE post-conciliar types — I’m gonna say something nice about the post-conciliar church. There ain’t no bleeding blue in a novus ordo Advent!
PS if you guys snuck that in too lately, give me at least the Twelve Days of Christmas to preserve my illusion. Oh yeah, you can’t, they jacked Epiphany around.
Feliz Navidad a todo de ustedes!
That is right PE 26C. I hope you all enjoy singing carols according to Hymns Ancient and Modern, unlike our melbourne Christian radio that has been playing Carols from Hymns Awful and Murdered .
Carols from Hymns Awful and Murdered.
Matthias, that is too funny!
Blessed Christmas to everyone here at SCE, to Past Elder, Pastor Weedon and all our brothers and sisters in Christ!
