"Become One Body One Spirit in Christ" – DVD Resource for the New Missal

I receive regular newsletters from John Garratt Publishing. They deal with a lot of stuff which (euphamistically) may be described as “not my cup of tea”, but this resource will be very significant.

“Become One Body One Spirit in Christ” is the international DVD produced to aid catechesis for the introduction of the new translation of the Roman Missal (due in a parish near you in mid-2010). It looks really good. The video tour begins with Vivaldi’s Gloria – a good start indeed!

John Garratt is offering it at a pre-order discount for $28 (perhaps Mary at the Central Catholic Bookshop might have details for how we could order it through her?).

Very nicely produced indeed. Looks like a fine resource.

And joy, joy Father Paschal has begun introducing bits of the new missal at Mass. How glad I am to once again hear “BEHOLD the Lamb of God” — “shed for many” — and “and with your SPIRIT.”

Need I even mention how much I will love the restored Gloria?

We have truly waited long enough. Considering I knew many of those texts when I was growing up, it’s a liturgical homecoming for me.

Is Fr Paschal allowed to do that? I mean, what is the situation in the States? Has the new translation already been authorised for use? We don’t have a starting date here yet, but as far as I know it is old ICEL for at least a year yet.

I believe we will begin using the new translation in Advent 2011.

As to whether Father Paschal is permitted to do it, I’m guessing since he’s only employing a couple of snippets here and there and the ICEL translation is still the norm he’s not seriously breaking any liturgical rules.

My parish is staffed by Benedictines from St. Andrew of Svorad monastery. They tend to be a bit more “traditional.” :)

Oops, wait, I could be wrong about that, I have to recheck. Did Father say 2011 or 2010?

I’ll get back to you on that!

  5. Christine says:

Yep, it does appear that it will be Advent 2011.
