About This Blog
Sentire Cum Ecclesia began years ago back when blogs were the latest thing. They are a bit passe now, and I spend most of my time on twitter (@scecclesia) but from time to time, I do add new things on this ‘ere website. Mostly I use it as a place for journaling about my Pilgrimage experiences.

The Church in the Middle East still suffering
I am reading Diarmaid MacCulloch’s new “History of Christianity” at the moment (see here for a review of the book by none other than the Bearded One himself, the Archbishop of Canterbury). One of the significant features of the book … Continue reading

A miracle by anyone's standards.
Last night I was discussing with Cathy and my mother-in-law the testimony of the woman who experienced the second “miracle” accredited to Mother Mary of the Cross (aka Mary MacKillop). Even my not-very-sympathetic-to-Catholic-idosyncracies mother-in-law said she had to acknowledge that … Continue reading

Head West, Young Bishop!
I received some happy news and some sad news this morning. But, in regards to the latter, perhaps we are just being selfish… The happy news is, of course, that the Parramatta Diocese has a new bishop: none other than … Continue reading

By none other than St Francis de Sales [HT to Fraser Pearce]: We call that vainglory which men take to themselves, either for what is not in them, or which being in them is not their own, or which being … Continue reading

Is the search for "The True Church" a valid one?
The comment string on my post below linking to Pastor Weedon’s blog (An entertaining comment string on Weedon’s Blog) drew an old and familiar voice back into the discussion. Terry Maher (aka Past Elder) ended that discussion by saying he was … Continue reading

Invoke History, but first consult it!
There is an excellent, short and well referenced article on the wartime record of Pius XII at Times Online by an Inside the Vatican writer, William Donio Jnr: “Pius XII did help the Jews”. The author ends with this statement: … Continue reading
