About This Blog
Sentire Cum Ecclesia began years ago back when blogs were the latest thing. They are a bit passe now, and I spend most of my time on twitter (@scecclesia) but from time to time, I do add new things on this ‘ere website. Mostly I use it as a place for journaling about my Pilgrimage experiences.
The motto of the blog is:

Another take on the double standard question…
I haven’t said much about the horrors going on in Gaza on this blog. What is there to say? Michael Leunig says it rather nicely with this cartoon in today’s edition of The Age. I wonder what criticism there will … Continue reading

The Religious Company of Barak Obama
Mixed feelings met the announcement that Barack Obama had chosen Pastor Rick Warren to lead the prayer at his inauguration (see here at The Catholic Thing for example). People said then that it was to keep favour with the Evangelicals. … Continue reading

Apologetics as a Lay Apostolate
I was quite taken aback by this blog on LP Cruz’ blogsite, claiming that “dialoguing with RC Apologists in somewhat superfluous … because the only one really qualified to speak for Rome is the Magisterium itself.” In support for this … Continue reading

New Priest in our parish…
…and (on first impressions) we like him. His homilies are brief, pithy and pointed – ending with a question which intends to offer a challenge to the listeners. I have heard three homilies so far and Jesus has figured centrally … Continue reading

BLOGNIC ALERT: The Second Annual Melbourne Catholic Bloggers Gathering (Sunday 25th January 6pm )
“Blognic” is a Fr Z. term for a gathering of bloggers for eating, drinking and conversation. We had one of these early last year (or was it late 2007 – can’t remember – too long ago anyway) when we gathered … Continue reading

Three essays on Pluralism and Interreligious Dialogue
I have read in recent days three essays which I recommend to you on Interreligious dialogue and the challenge of pluralism. They are not saying the same thing entirely, but each explore the issue from profitable angles to lead us … Continue reading

The Childless Wedding
People often said to me when I was a pastor that doing funerals must be so difficult compared to (for eg.) doing a wedding which would be a happy occasion. Truth to tell, I always preferred funerals to weddings. Partly … Continue reading

Apparitions: Harry Potter for Grown Ups?
A friend gave me a copy of the first five episodes of a new BCC drama called “Apparitions”. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you can read about it here and here. It has drawn generally negative reaction from … Continue reading

[Update 12 Jan 09: It turns out that I mistook the identity of my correspondent – it wasn’t my Lutheran pal at all, but a complete stranger with whom I was corresponding! Red face covered in egg… No wonder I … Continue reading
