  6. Joshua says:

    Dear David,

I trust you had a wonderful Christmas – perhaps you can mention the highlights?

I wonder if you watched carols from St Patrick’s, as televised on Christmas Eve… I was hugely impressed to see it culminate in Eucharistic Benediction, and wonder what comments are circulating about this very Catholic piece of evangelism.

  7. Schütz says:

Yes, I did watch the Carols and Lessons. I too was impressed by the final Benediction – surely the first time that such a devotion was shown on Christmas Eve in Australia?

My Father-in-law didn’t like the program overall – said he preferred Kings College – but I don’t think his judgement was anything to do with the final ending. More musical taste. Which, as we all know, varies.

I was personally thrilled to see a locally produced service on the telly. Deacon Cameron Forbes (I attended his ordination with my daughters and Pastor Pearce) did an excellent job of proclaiming the gospel, and the Archbishop shone as always in this, a context in which he excells.

  8. Joshua says:

I was delighted (as +Hart would say) to meet up with Rev. Forbes in Adelaide at the recent ordinations there; I had met him in Melbourne some years back, but had utterly lost contact, and it was great to see him again. As you say, he does a fine job as a deacon.

Which reminds me – a friend of mine, a permanent deacon in Perth, asks, what is going on with the incredibly drawn-out process in Melbourne for maybe someday having permanent deacons (providing the Parousia doesn’t supervene)?

David, let me know if the service will be available on CD – I particularly liked Malcolm’s “Verbum caro factum est”.

    Merry Christmas to You too!
